While at the machine shop getting the 406ci dyno tuned I decided to have my intake cut correctly for my milled heads. I was getting by with a little extra RTV along the bottom of the intake gaskets. I had already elongated the holes, so I thought I might as well get it fixed right.'

Well the intake in down lower in the front and rear valleys probably less that 1/16" when before it was twice or three times that much, so that much is good. But I did not notice untill the truck had left that I can see the blue seal in the FelPro 1206 gasket sticking out on one side.

What would you do in this situation, can I remove the intake ( motor has not been run yet ) and re-aligh the gasket or take these pictures back to the machine shop and see what they say. I am afraid if they can't even line up the gasket that they might have screwed up milling my intake too. I am also worried that the water passages are misaligned or the gasket in between is not in there properly and it will leak water into my motor

Here's the side with the gasket sticking out too far:

Here is the other side which looks OK:

Default That Sucks, that should have been

easy for the machine shop to catch. I would at least take the pics to them, and request they fix it right. How much out of alignement to you think the intake to head ports are? I would think there would be some misalignment.
Dang, doesn't anyone take pride in their work anymore?

That's just it, they were supposed to fix the intake to head port alignment, cost me $250. I agree about the workmanship, one reason I usually do everything myself, this I couldn't do

It's not acceptable to have the blue sealant of the intake gaskets visable and unclamped. It needs to be corrected one way or the other.

Can you see down the carb inlet to see how the port alignment is? I agree, that doesn't look right.

I will take a look tommorrow and see if I can see down the runner. I just looked at it again and now it looks like the intake gasket is in the same place on both sides but the intake is down lower on the side you can see the blue sealer like the intake is cocked slightly.

The intake is definitely sitting lower in the first pic. Compare the distance from the top of the manifold to the cast part of the head (valve cover rail).

I agree with those that say take it back and get it fixed. Someone should be buying you a replacement manifold.

You can get thicker intake gaskets for to compensate for situations like this(from .030" to .6250" ). Be sure your end rails aren't bottoming when the manifold is torqued.

I am going to take the pics to the machine shop tommorrow and see what they say, I hate when this crap happens.

It is possible the intake is just crooked, too high on one side and too low on the other because of the elongated holes but it just means whoever assembled it doesn't know what they are doing.

you pay your good money to have quality work done. if it's not quality, then the shop folks need to know that. when they fix it, they'll keep you as a customer. and they'll also have folks with a better understanding of making sure no work gets out of the shop unless it's the finest.

Into every build, some rain must fall. Show em the pics, see what they say. If the gaskets were installed properly (sealant set up before intake installed) the intake is mis-aligned. WORST case is the milling was done improperly. (crossed fingers that is NOT the case)
Good luck....GO GET EM!!!!

I hope it is easily remedeed wayne, you have spent so many hours getting that engine just right for someone else to screw it up, did you take a measurement or just eyeball as if not staight it can give an optical illusion of differntiating heights = I hope that it all it is.
