Water pump/fan clutch marks
Hi fellow members! I am about to install the engine and tranny on my 72 base coupe. Putting all or the "stuff" back on the freshly rebuilt mill and was reading in the manual that when installing the fan clutch on the water pump flange that one must match up the "yellow mark on the fan clutch to the "blue" mark on the water pump. Unfortunately, I painted my new water pump chevy orange before I bolted it on the the block and painted over the "blue" mark I guess. I don't even remember seeing it. I do see the yellow mark on the fan clutch. My question is - How important is it to match up the two marks before fastening the clutch to the water pump? What is the purpose for this match-up? I really appreciate your past answers to my questions. Many of you have been very helpful to me during my rebuilding project over the last year.
