shifter boot change
Hi, I have a 71 4speed and need to replace the shifter boot. I took the ball and spring off and had expected the t-arm part to come right off, it didn't, and I did not want to force, what do I need to do? Thanks for any help.

The reverse locking lever (T-Arm) should slide right out. Was it operational, because it needs to slide freely to operate properly. If it's just stuck in there I would try jiggling it a little to try and loosen it up. If that doesn't work, try some Pb Blaster or WD 40 or something like that to break up any corrosion that may have built up (just spray it down inside the shifter handle). If all else fails you could either cut away the upper boot to see what is going on with the T-Arm or you could also try and inspect the shifter from below. Once you get the T-Arm out you will still need to remove the shifter console to replace the upper shift boot. While you're there you should also consider replacing the lower shift boot as they are often torn and can let a lot of heat into the passenger cabin. Good luck!
