Default New exhaust system

Any recommendations on manufacturers of correctly fitting exhaust systems (aluminized) for 68-72 vettes.

Try Allens exhaust. I can`t remember the web address though. Many people have bought there and are satisfied. I did and am very happy. Here is the phone number 219-722-4066.

If by 'correct' you mean NCRS correct, check that the mufflers are welded to the pipes in the front. Most aren't. I don't know which mfgr (if any) has those in reproduction.

mulchie, what year do you have (I know you said 68-72, but which one?) and what type of exhaust system do you want? There is completely stock, like Juliet said - mufflers are welded. There is almost stock, with stock style mufflers clamped to otherwise stock pipes. If you want to use aftermarket mufflers you have to add another set of elbows on both sides of the muffler. If your car has headers or you want headers you will need a different front pipe (or you will be cutting the stock front pipe) Do you plan to install it yourself? The various options I gave you above change the complexity of installing. I am going thru thru the process myself right now. ... and still have a few bugs to work out - I am not finished yet. Made some mistakes that cost me $$. MJ

My car is a 71 LT-1. I am replacing the original system that's 2" at the manifold and 2.5" out. Paragon has aluminized one piece systems but they're $$. I want something that is NCRS correct.

Well, that's a different story! Most of the catalogs sell welded systems. Zip has them listed on our very own restoration store here in the forum... $275 but I only see a 2" system listed. Since you are interested in factory originality according to NCRS I would definitely post this in the factory correct restoration forum and/or the NCRS technical discussion board. I have no idea if any particular vendor has a reputation for selling welded systems that still get hit for point deductions for subtle reasons. And no matter what vendor is highly recommended by NCRS folks, I would also call the vendor and mention that factory correct is an important consideration of mine. MJ

There are no aftermarket systems I have heard of that will not get dinged for points in an NCRS judging situation. Factory pipes and mufflers weren't aluminized. Having said that, I agree that Allens and Paragon both sell nice systems. The Paragon system I bought (with the welded mufflers) fit like a glove. One word of caution. None of the replacement mufflers sounds like an original muffler even though they may look similar. The set I have are way to quiet. Try to listen to other Vettes exhaust system before buying.

I agree. The paragon system can be ordered as "off-road". It has one less baffle and sounds more original. Their standard system is too quiet.
