Default Rusted intake mainfold bolt

I removed the left and right rearmost intake manifold bolts on my L36 BB to install the missing ignition shielding. The left rear bolt had a lot of rust on the thread (the right side had some too but not as much) and I to take a wire wheel to it to clean it up and put some RTV on it before re-installing.

Does anyone know if this is normal for this to happen? Thanks.

Anybody know about this issue? Is this an isolated incident or is this a common issue in big blocks? Thanks.

Probly happen because of some water leaking into the bolt hole back in history somewhere. The RTV will eliminate that

I have a 69 L-68 BB, When I replaced the intake 2 years ago it was a mess inside with minor corrosion and goo in the water ports at the rear of intake. All the bolts had rust on them to some extent and had to be cleaned. I suspect this is common from bubbas putting tap water in the system over the years. If I remember right some of the bolts are tapped into the water jackets on the heads, if no sealant was used water vapor can get up in the threads and rust. I would'nt be too concerned, High temp RTV and reinstall. I would flush the system if it hasn't been done in a while. If your really bored pull the intake and reinstall. It's fairly simple- Swamper
