Default Transmission on or off?

When I do replace my BB in my 73, do I attach the Keisler now or after the install. I have mixed opinions, what think you?

I have not done this myself, but was considering the install and read up on it. Most of the magazine articles state that they chose to install the trans and the motor as a unit. Something about non-removable cross members on some of our C-3's making it difficult. My .02 Good luck!

When I put my motor in I had the tranny installed. BUT, it was only the muncie tranny. I installed the Kiesler from below when it came time for that. I believe if I had the motor out and was going back, I would at least give it a shot with the Keisler mounted on the motor. Sure would make it a lot easier to do. You may want to invest in a tilter to get the motor at a better angle going in.

With out a doubt, if you are committed to not making the crossmember removeable, install the engine and Tremec as a unit. It will be easier by far. Just to give you the most maneuvering room, with the radiator removed, take the top two bolts on each side out of the core support and rotate the top of the core support forward. It is easy to do and worth the trouble. I have done this without even raising the car on jack stands, but you may want to do that because the Tremec is a little longer.

Oh, you already have the core support removed Just drop the muncie and drive shaft and slide the the engine/tremec in as a unit. I still recommend you use a engine varable tilt motor lifting mechanisim.

If you are going to use the stock bell housing then you should be ok when the time comes to replace the clutch It will be challenging but still doable. If you are going to use a scatter shield, be prepaired to pull the engine again ( at least up and forward off the mounts)
