Any of you guys have a few pix of your hydroboost installation??
just one or two shots is enough...as it sits in the car...
also, which hose is which....I presume the large nut is the input, then the rest is obvious, knowing one goes to return, the other goes to steering....
Gene I will have to check my email tomorrow at work.
The bigger of the 2 lines is 18 mm and it is the input from the power steering pump. The smaller 16mm is output and goes to the in for the power steering. There is also a drain which can be a soft line with a clamp.
This is the only picture I have readily available
Norval, I have followed up on the other thread there, and noted the pix in your conversation here with BlackRat...and for sure they were/are helpful....
one thing I noticed is you mounted your unit upside down, and that is the way I think I"m going to do mine, as that pressure canister is over top of the headers, probably not all that close to cause problems, but think I will be safe....
Why is that pressure canister there?? incase of hose failure??

Gene you do NOT just mount the unit upside down. The mounting plate is angled. You need to remove the plate, rotate it 180 degrees and rebolt it down. This puts the hydroboost and master cylinder on the right plane.
There is a special technic for bolting the mounting plate on 180 degrees out. Do you need this information???

NO Norval, thanks, but I am fine with that, my recollection was seeing the unit mounted 'upside down' in the pix...so I was scratching my *** wondering yesterday while playing with it, and thought I"d try the usual position, but you guys are correct, upside down is much better, so that is a simple swap, and using that cut off bolt as an index key is good thinking...I allready have the angles set nicely...so that much is good, everything drilled also...Thankfully I have a bunch of OEM lines which appear in good condition, and sufficient length to do what needs done...
Just curious about the Hydroboost gizzie, whats the purpose and or advantage of that thing? It runs off the PS pump? Instead of the vacume boost?
YES, and it's a huge improvement over ANY stock type vacuum assist I have ever driven...new to used...don't matter...
see my thread about sue GM....that was tongue in cheek about my nose and kidneys slamming NOW this car has phenominal brakes...lock them at will...easy...before it took a panic stop to lock the brakes...and had NO pedal, no matter what/how I bled them....now that thing stops on a dime with 9 cents change....
it is to the brakes what rack/pinion steering is to handling in way of mechanical changes....of course wide rubber/lower profile is the largest change....
but I feel changing the tires to those lo profile wide suckers made the brakes less effective somehow...and of course affected handling...making a rack a need improvement....
Well, basically I found the only EFFECTIVE way over the last nearly 2 years now for ME to get one was go on ebay and look up hydroboost, and buy one...damn bidding goes to 174 bux for mine with M/Cyl....which was junk for me,...but it did come with the old stock hydraulic lines I modded to fit my rack and so forth..the entire thing was done on LO BUDGET, no special fittings and waiting, nothing super special, just junkyard parts and some time and effort...and thinking about possibilities....
I maybe at some advantage here, as being an olde phart I have the time, from time to time, and the past experiences to be able to pull off some crazy crap....but I try staying totally conservative in the approach, keeping costs in mind...
Anything in the 80's or 90's are all the same. My first unit was from a 82 1/2 ton vank, cost $20 The second one was from a 94 one ton truck and it was $50.
All that seems to change is the mounting plate. I like the one with 4 studs, one at each corner.
I don't like the mounting plate. It has the 2 center bolts and I am use to the 4 corner studs. The hydroboost itself is the right one I just don't know about the mounting plate??
Yes it is. Just remove a large nut and the plate comes right off. I just found the normal plate I am use to fits exactly to our corvettes. The holes are already drilled in the right location and right size.
I do remove the plate and just reverse it a bolt it right back on.
That unit looks great, just the plate is the unknown.
For me it would be fine because I would drill the holes.

Norval has it, turn the whole unit upside down, and it's at the right angle...M/Cyl as he said is in correct position.....you need not change a thing, in retrospect....not off MY unit anyway...
the original lines have been reused in my case...
I had to drill new holes, I do have a drill press and punch marker...so it was easy for ME....
