My 82 has a new puddle under it. The leak is about 12" directly in line with the front passenger wheel under the lower control arm. The fluid is clear. I think it is a break hose/line or connection. Im not sure. I can not see a drip and it is a small puddle about 3" in diameter or the size of a cup coaster. What can this be? It's transmission fluid, or Radiator coolant. The power steering box is on the otherside of the car. So it must be brake fluid because I have not run the AC and there would be no moisture from the condensor.
If it is a brake line, what do I have to do to change it or fix it. I have never worked on brake lines before and have never bled a brake system. So if some of you experts could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Ok The brake lines are not wet. The inside of the wheels are not wet. The radiator or the hoses are not leaking. The puddle has not evaporated in 4 days. So it is something leaking not condensation. What elese could it be? I will check the level of the fluid in the master cylinder.
If it was the driver's side I'd say power steering fluid, but since it hasn't evaporated and is on the passenger side... Only logical fluid it could be is brake fluid... or that mythical headlight fluid
The coolant overflow tanks can get a hole rubbed in them on the inner fender panel side and will only leak down to the level of the hole. This happened on my 79. You could add some coolant and see if the level goes down over time or the puddle gets bigger. Good luck.
Well think through all the fluids and approximate evap. time. Fuel would be gone. Coolant would be greenish and noticeable. Brake fluid is likely. Could still be PS fluid even on that side i think. Water would be long gone. Oil would be brownish and noticeable. Tranny fluid would be redish and noticeable. Gear oil is no where close to the front of the car. If its a manual, could be clutch (brake) fluid but would be on drivers side i'd think. Almost has to be brake or ps fluid. I would check everything top and bottom with a flashlight. Also i would wipe up the fluid, drive the car, and park and see what happens. Might be fluke. My car will leak something once and never again. Never know where it came from. You never know. just me .02
Maybe it is your A/C system leaking. I don't mean condensation but mean compressor oil. Check the bottom of the receiver-drier to see if any oil is running down the side and dripping off the bottom tube. An O-ring may have decayed and the freon pressure is pushing the oil out.
