a few days ago i've fixed the hydroboost to my '77 and what a change in feeling and strength, the brake pedal got hard and needs only half inch of pressing to start operating, it's what i was looking for, i never could get used to vette soft brake pedal and this makes all the difference (i've got to say i have also wilwood superlight calipers all round though...)
Guys with manual brakes should drive a car with hydroboost and feel what a strong set of brakes really feel like. I have had mine for about 8 years and love the system.
Norval, 8 YEARS?? man, wish you spoke up earlier....
maybe you did, but I missed it....
here I got synthetic fluid, O ring calipers, runout problems, if any--solved...and still lousey brakes....
some guys blame syn fluid....I allways thought it was BS, as there is NO inherant differance traceable to the syn fluid..DOT5....but NOW, there is a really solid feel and if I press the pedal, solid lockup....
I have owned/driven GM cars for decades now, from my '61 Catalina, through '87 vette, through Caddys...chebbys....the works... and this is the FIRST time ANY car, not just GM has had what I I would consider decent brakes with confidence that damn thing will stop...with enough pedal to grind the damn pads/shoes to oblivian before hell awaits....
Great news! i installed mine a month or so ago and I can't wait to see how it feels. Did you buy the HB kit or did you get a junk yard unit?
BR, I got it through ebay, and overpaid,...but such is life, I can't fine one junkyard locally, and parts houses are forgetaboutit.....
so 170 bux and ten daze later I finally got one....
it came with truck LARGE M/Cyl....useless...same bore as I had...but what I had was an upgrade in piston diameter over the stock vette unit...tried that about a year ago as a final attempt...to fix the 'stock system'....forget it, vacuum boosters suck...and I don't have a wild cam...15 inches at 750 rpm is not a wild cam...damit...
anyway, NOW The CAR STOPS....
NOW the next step is to find a Master Cylinder out of aluminum/plastic that can basically bolt in without an act of God....
Very cool!!! I want tell you what I paid for mine. I don't want you to hate me....
What did you do about your high pressure lines? Did you build them yourself? I have the 16 and 18mm to an adapters but I am not sure what I will need for the hoses. Did you have to use an adapter on the steering cylinder for connecting the hoses?
BR, I did a rack/pinion conversion on my own, aboutr 4 years ago or so...similar but actully 'better'..snicker...than steeroids...
well in some ways anyway...so the plumbing is/was/has been easy, really...I used the old truck lines that came with the unit...
and bent, cut them to fit....the steel is 3/8 which makes 3/8 plumbing unions outta brass fit very well...work fine as I have had one on my car for about 10 years now...IT has never leaked a drop...wish I could say that about the rest of the car...
