Default secondaries on q jet

Went to drag strip a short while ago and noticed a considerable amount of lag time before the secondaries kicked in. How can I adjust them to kick in sooner? They kick in around 3500 rpm's.

Well I should have done a search earlier. I read up and have a few ideas what to look for now. I thought they were vacuum operated.

Not opened by vacuum but by spring tension. Get a mirror and look under the passenger side of the qjet secondary shaft and you'll see an allen wrench screw. Loosen this screw to unlock the tension adjusting screw and adjust the tension so the secondary flaps return closed with very little tension. You'll have to do this with the engine off and the throttle pulled open since the secondary is locked out when the throttle is at idle. Don't forget to tighten the allen screw back.

If you adjust the secondary airflap to open too easily you will get a big ole bog, so make sure you make note of the screw's initial position.

Check out the article written by Lars for a great explanation on how it works
