Need creative ideas for throttle cable bracket (pic)
Hey everyone - just installed a new demon carb and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out what to do about the throttle cable. As it is now, it doesn't open all the way, doesn't return quickly enough, and looks ridiculous.
From previous posts, it looks like there is widened fitting at the base of the throttle cable sheath, but mine doesn't have that. I can't find anything at JEGS or Summit that uses the clamp style shown here.
I had the same issue with my 6211 Holley spreadbore...
I got a "Teco" L bracket from Home Depot (near the framing hardware) & made my own bracket that bolts on about the same place as yours. Re-used the little retainer thingy from the stock bracket.
if you still have your original qjet bracket you can hammer it flat and drill a new hole just outside the original, about where the keeper stud is. The holes should be 5.5in apart on center. I did this yesterday and it works perfectly
I used a Lokar bracket, cable, and spring. Sorry, no pics. It worked out great and it looks nice too. I ordered from either Jeg's or Summit, I can't remember which...
Don't spend any money until your's is adjusted properly. It looks like you can straighten (move to the right in the picture) the bracket. Move it pretty far. The reason you can't get full throttle is probably because the black sheath over the end of the cable hits the bracket when you try to open it fully. I'd relocate the bracket and also clamp the cable at the farthest to the right that it goes - up against the raised ring on the cable. That should allow the cable to pull the throttle open farther.
You might try a secondary spring (always a good idea), and lubricate the cable to get it to close better.
