My experience with dodge transmissions is that they're all total crap. Friend of mine has a dodge and I've yet to see her actually be able to drive it, since the transmission is ALWAYS broken.
Strongest autos? Powerglide, th400, and th350 in my opinion.
The 400, C6, and TF727 are about the same for torque capacity. But for durability, it would be the C6, 400 and a distant last would be the 727. The 727 had a failure-prone planetary set and sprag. Even though it was behind the mighty Hemi, a person who used the car hard could expect regular failures of these two items. It also had a tendency to bend the input shaft.
The only C6 problem I ever suffered ( and its common ) is the end snapping off the second brake band. Cheap to fix but the trans has to come out and spend a few minutes on your kitchen table.
Does anyone remember that saying? Powerglides are pretty good units for 1/4 mile work if you have the right converter and get it rebuilt by someone who knows transmissions,,, 1/4 mile transmissions. The fact that you only have to shift it once is a +, but not as much fun if you are good with a four speed manual, nothing beats the sound of a high revving small block (w/open headers) going down the 1/4 mile being shifted by someone who can shift. Ah,,,,,,,,,Memories.
