Just wondering if any of you guys and gals have one in there 82,84 or any other OBD1 gen pcm for auto tran's vette's? And notice any gains what so ever or at least notice a shift point change, delayed TQ conv lockup ect ect..
I used a Hyper-Tech Stage II on my first '82...good marketing...sounded cool; not much difference to be quite honest. Changed to a 180 degree thermostat as well and even tried split-fire plugs. All in all a high mileage car that ran pretty good for what she was...not worth the $$ IMHO.
I thought about doing the same for my current '82 but decided to leave her truly stock. The only real difference between the two cars was the chip, thermo and my first one was missing the "ram-air" door on the hood. I've left this one completely stock.
I'm using a Hypertech thermothingy in my '81 (carb). Saw a lot of flak directed at them (Hypercrap, etc) but one was going at a reasonable price in the parts for sale forum, so I grabbed it. My conclusions (from reading differences reported by other members) is that they're probably a waste of time in a stock engine as nobody seems to notice a difference. In my engine I'd previously fitted true duals & then fitted a Performer intake & a better cam. The midrange upwards performance felt better, but it seemed a bit flat low down, especially just off idle. After fitting the chip a lot of the lost low end power came back & when I advanced the timing by 5* (so I moved the whole curve by 5*) it really made a difference, throttle response was much improved, pick up was great & blipping the throttle makes the engine rev freely instead of lazily just "clearing its throat". So, in a stockish engine I'd say spend your money on something else, but if you've done any mods then it's certainly worth considering one if you've run out of other things to spend cash on!

In combination with the high-performance module also from Accel. My very stock car (only cat is gone) now revs up much quicker, so even when you are still stock it could have noticable benefits.
Before I forget: my TH350 auto seems to shift a tad later when using the kick-down. I'll be checking the garage on this, because it's a little disturbing to see the meter going in the red zone (>7000 rpm)
