Default Help need for stuck door

The outer door handle on my driver side door is very hard to open. Door opens normally using inside handle.

Outside, I squeeze the fold down flap full down and nothing happens. Is this an adjustment problem or a worn out part or ?

Any insight appreciated.

Just for s***s and grins...have ya tried putting WD-40 in the outside lock assembly, thru the key hole? Then work the lock back and forth a bunch and see if things improve....worth a shot..

Default door handle

flynhi,
SIXFOOTER is probably right. I chimed in a week or so back on the same problem. There is a threaded rod going from the outer door handle to an arm sticking out of the latch mechanism. Over time, the rod can get bent or the latch mechanism gains some slack or both, so the cure is to lengthen that small rod so that the arm on the latch has more "preload" on it. There is a threaded nut on the bottom of that rod that engages the arm and you will have to turn that nut a few threads to effect the cure.

Now the hard part:- you have to disconnect that nut from the clip that holds it to the arm then unthread it a number of turns, thereby effectively lengthening the rod. Then you have to re-attach the nut to the clip on the arm. If you are not a patient person, give this job to someone else, preferably with small fingers/hands. If it is at all possible to find a latch mechanism that has been removed from a door, then study it and you will clearly see what you have to do. It's not easy but it can be done. Good luck!
