Gold Plated Parts RANT
Went a national chain to get a set of valve covers gaskets.Went thriugh the drill with the parts man,what year ,make model ,have FI?,finialy finds the gaskets in the back and anounces that there 21+tax,huh?Left the store without the gaskets ,wondering if there plated with some super secret material.Went to the same chain next town over and told the parts man what I needed except that I had a 72 Vega that I shoe-horned a 350 into.He smiled and said it sounded like a great project car,Oh Yeah same gaskets now $7.95+tax,No more Vette for me ,now its a 72 Vega.Wish I could do the same with the DMV!! :boxing

Telling a parts man you have a Corvette is akin to telling them "it's for marine use" or "needs to be nuclear certified". Bend over and grab your ankles. :mad :smash: :boxing :cry :bs

Parts houses have several prices. Find a parts dealer you like and get to know the clerk real well. After enough parts and enough BS you might start getting his jobber price. :D If you approach the clerk with white shorts and no grease under your nails expect to pay the highest price. If you don't know the clerk, dress in grease covered clothes, dirty hands and tell him it's not your car and ask what the price is before you ask if they have the part.
