gas tank help
Just purchased a 71 that was in the middle of a restoration. A new gas tank was installed a few years back. When I got the car home I went to drain the gas and noticed it was more water than gas. I drained about 1 1/2 gallons of rust colored liquid. I cleaned the sending unit pretty easy. The tank on the inside has rust colored sludge in it. Can this tank be saved or is it ruined. Didn't know if you can clean inside or once rust sets in your done??

while you got it out just replace it. Gas tanks are cheap. check this link www.gastanks.com I made the mistake of trying to fix mine and ended up pulling it again and replacing it. Replace the overflow seal at the top of the gas tank also and its not a bad time to replace the sending unit. If you have rust then you have weak spots that will give later down the road. Good luck
