Default Vanacor Hood Clearance Question

I am trying to purchase a L-88 Hood from Vanacor. I put a nice little 427 in my 74 with an Edelbrock Performer intake. The "receptionist" at Vanacor told me to measure from the top of my air cleaner to the top of my fender to see which hood I would need...ie the 2 1/4 or 4" over stock. The measurement is 5 inches. If I am not mistaken, even the original low rise intake/air cleaner combo was 2 or 3 inches above the fenders and my stock cowl hood fit over that. The response I got from Vanacor was that they do not make an L-88 hood with that much clearance. I KNOW there are guys out there running taller intakes than the Performer with an L-88 hood. So, is there a miscommunication w/ Vanacor? Can I fit a 2 1/4 over stock hood or do I need the 4"?
Thank you in advance

The stock hood height of the 73-79 med. rise hood is 3 1/4". The normal L-88 hood is 7/8" over that or 4 1/8". No.s are from Eckler's, measured from the drain rails w/ hood open over center of air cleaner.

I have seen a vanacor L88 hood at a show one time, that thing was tall, looked like just about anything would fit under it. I will try and find the picture.

I think the 4" would definately fit, but I would prefer the the 2 1/4" because I think it looks better. Does anyone have a definate answer as to whether the 2 1/4" will fit?

Before RamJet 502 I had a Edelbrock Performer intake with the Holly 6213 speadbore 800CFM carb on the 454 and a standard 3" drop base air cleaner. It fit under the stock height L-88 Eckler hood w/o an air chamber shown below. When I was doing my measuring, there was ~10.5" from the top of the air cleaner to the top of the front china wall of the engine block

I had to raise it ~1.5" to get the 502 RamJet to fit

That Vanacor Hood looks like a blower might fit

I love the Vanacor L88 hood on that blue vette. I bet it would look even better with some flares and L88 headlights from F. Gregg racing. Everything has to be big to match up with the hood.

So this hood should fit? From the top of my air cleaner to the top of the fender is 5 inches.

Id try the regular 2 1/4 hood ,because the 4'' is to damn tall, hard to see out the windshield

Compare the bottom section of Vettaddic's hood to the bottom section of Bullshark's. By leaving the bottom section alone and raising the center section the desired height it is not so obtrusive. A little glass work but well worth it.
