Hey everyone, I want to take Blue Thunder to the next level here and I SHOULD have kept an email list of all the members from day #1 but I didn't. If you would like to be on an email list with updates and info (occasionally not often) please email me at wyldeone1@yahoo.com make sure to include your forum handle and whatever email addy you want to recieve updates at.
Here's a few ideas I had, while you're here, weigh in.
1) I'd like to purchase a domain name and a server but I'd have to pay for that out of my pocket. Would you be willing to contribute either "donations" or member ship dues (say $10 or less a year?)
2) Do we still want to limit membership to forum members ONLY? We've got a guy from the netherlands who wants to join and asked why the forum membership is a stipulation. I told him just because we formed it here. We'll ALWAYS be forum based, but if we're on search engines I'd like to open up membership.
I wanted to give a few more details on the fees (if we decide to do it) The dues or donations would help pay for the domain name and hosting service, but other things too. I did some research over the summer about creating and actual non profit organization, and there are a few hundred dollars in startup fees. Btw, any ACCOUNTANTS or LAWYERS in the group? We'll have to pay someone to help me fill out the application unless we have a lawyer or accountant that can do it. Also I wanted to start selling t-shirts ourselves (with a small mark-up it will generate revenue enough to pay overhead).
BTW do we still have an interest in Blue Thunder clings or stickers? I'll get on that too if peole are interested.
I've only heard from ONE Blue C3 owner, no-one else is interested? We have 50+ C3s and over 200 members and I'd like to see the club develope so we can meet at the cruise in, etc but I need people to send me their email addy to add them to the list!
Jenn, :seeya I think I replied over when I was in the C4 forum. :D Anyways, sure, open it up to folks outside the forum. That's cool by me! I'd vote for voluntary donations. You risk cutting of folks who are opposed to paying to join a club or those who are struggling to make ends meet and keep their vettes on the road. I think there are probably enough of us who would voluntarily chip in a few bucks to help keep things going without making it a requirement. JMHO. ~Juliet
Regarding both of your questions, I think Juliet nailed them both. Voluntary donations and open the club up to non forum members as well. Can't see a reason not to.
One suggestion. I belonged to another non-car related forum that existed on donations. At the top of the home page the owner/webmaster/moderator kept a running tab on the current total of donations and the money spent to date. He had no problem with keeping a healthy balanece as the total donations usually doubled the amount spent. he also kept a record of who donated, just in case the forum ever folded (which it has once already).
Hey everyone just wanted to let you know the address list is growing (YES!) also I'm working with DFORCE on Blue Thunder site stuff. he's the one that created our logo and has been a silent partner to me. He and I came up with the idea of donations with "reward gifts" like PBS. Just a little something small to say thanks for supporting the club. I'll let you know when we hammer out the details. I can REALLY say things are working out and the pieces are starting to fit!!!!!!
