Default ongoing sidepipe installation, custom bracket fabrication

Hey guys,
Am away from home at the mo so do not have access to my manuals or any other reading material. I will be installing my sidepipes ( lost count on how many times Ive said that! ) and want to get as much clearance as possible.

So I have my Hedman sidepipe headers ready to install and the Patriot pipes ( yeah cheap I know, I know ) Anyway, the pipes come with a bracket that is supposed to be fitted to the underside of the frame. I wanted to fab a bracket and mount it to the side of the frame thus increasing clearance.

SO....

Is this a good idea, any better suggestions???? also...as I have the Vette with me and empty cold evenings...so, if this is the way to go...how do I remove the...rocker panels? here in the UK we would call them sills....the aluminium cover strip down the side of the car...and how much space is there behind them, will there be enough room for the bolts and rubber washers?

Thanks for the advice....and no I cant afford the real thing ie Hookers...However, If anybody has a cheap set or wants to donate a set to a poor Uk owner...hehehe

Well... I personally wouldn't stick em out of the side because then they're right underneath the door and you're going to burn the crap out of your calves every time you get out.

Well best you could do is probably bring them up an inch. You'll still only have 3 or 4 inches of ground clearance.

Don't worry about the burn: you have heat shields on those pipes!

You should pm holley425hp, he has the same patriots (though without the shields) and fabbed his own brakcets.

Default Brackets

I am also running patriot pipes on my 69 convert. I like the way they look and sound. Removing the "sill " as you call it is easy. Just remove the screws along the top edge and off it comes. you will be able to see the frame then. I too made the brackets to mount mine. 11 Ga. S/S with a 1/2 inch offset. The brackets come out just under the sill plates (rocker trim). The brackets are bolted to the side of the frame. You are right you will burn yourself only once. Ask me how I know!

Those heatshields they provide any good? I bolted mine in like the instructions said and the ground clearance sucked horribly so I took them off and am working on a different approach. Going to still use the glasspack that they came with and probably the tip. Will end up just routing the glasspack under the car, hidden, and just have the tips stick out behind the doors. I just don't want to run my exhaust out of the back of the car because it makes accessing the rear end easier for when I rebuild the rear suspension.

Guess I am running a different style patriot pipes. Mine do not use shields. Mine are a hooker look-alike. They have a 4 tube style collector and a 3 1/2 in tube. all chrome. Of the collector tubes, only one is hot. The pipes hook up like the factory side pipes, using one down tube. I am currently running the stock rams horns, but have a set of S/S shortys to put on when I get the time. These pipes are available from J. C. Whitney for 250 a set now.
