Yes; heads with angled plugs have smaller combustion chambers and therefore higher compression. This is not a rule, but a generality. Heads with straight spark plugs are usually round the 76 cc area for SBC.
But a lot of the heads that I looked at give you the option to pick straight or angled and both have options have the same combustion chamber. How is this?
The angle plug head was originally introduced by GM for more power for motors with a domed piston. The bigger the dome the better the advantage, no dome no advantage.
I ran Chevy angle plug heads on my 11:1 CR 350/350 and they seemed to offer a lot more power than the stock 2.02's. I ran the stock cam and a Torker intake with a 600 Holley double pumper. The long block, heads, cam, lifters, valves, and springs were all bought new from Chevy.
I have them, Dave at AFR told me that they tend to make slightly more hp.
I remember reading a long time ago they make about 5 - 10 more horsepower, this was on the old iron heads.
thinking about using angled plug heads, make sure the plugs will clear the exhaust or headers.
I am using dynomax full length under the car headers
part #289-86008 and have no problems with clearence on plugs, steering box ,and for $209.99 am very pleased with them.
I hope this helps you.
