Default C5 rear in a C3

Would a complete c5 rear set fit under the c3 body?
What is the track width of a c5 verses c3.
I know that the wheels would have to be changed.

Up sides to the mod, better brakes, lighter, stronger??
Down sides, fab time cost of unit.

All comments welcome.

Thanks.

The wheel-base of the C-5 was streched to accomodate the new drivetrain 11 inches. Do that to your Vette and your half way there! All kidding aside, it would require massive man-hours and buckets of dead Presidents to accomplish. (Doesn't mean I wouldn't do it)

Also, C5 has a transaxle. There is no room for that in the C3. Basically, the transmission would be between the seats instead of under the dash. Major body mods would be involved.

It has been done (with a tube frame chassis and body mods).

Default not on a bett

well it is kinda easier to work on but i think it would give the car too much weight in the rear to be of any advantage other than a donut contest.,

At some point the trans has to unbolt from that rear and it has a input shaft. Fasten a yoke to it and drive shaft to the stock c3 tranny???

But Is track width too wide no matter what kinda wheels are used????

With a C5 body. The C3 has a nearly 50/50 weight distribution, too (with a small block). Who knows where the weight would end up if you started down that path? I think it would tend to go rearwards, since the C3 was at nearly 50/50 with the transmission up front.

Are you guys even reading my post.

I'm not worried about the weight distribution.

I'm asking about the track width, compared to a c3???

We were discussing all the issues involved - like the massive amount of work that it would take to clearance the body where the transmission would sit.

Saw the pics on the 69 (my favorite corvette) I hated the flares. They took away from the appearance of the car to me.
Dont like the way the front looks either. Im assuming they had to modify the body to accomadate the wider chassis.

We built a ton of parts for a '67 body that was put on a tube chassis that used all C-4 suspension parts. It was a sweet ride with a BBC and Richmond 6 speed. I think it sold for $120K. The guys are located in Lakewood, NJ.

i am not shure of the numbers on how much the engine weighs but the trans/differential is shure heavy,.but i am shure some engineer who gets payed way more than me could tell you.
now all that considered, moving the weight from the front center of a c3 to the rear.
consider this my frend, there is 30 years of technology that comes in to play.
I know lets re invent the wheel
SORRY!!!

But the C3 is also about 50 50, 49 51. So a transaxle would throw it off.
