I have a 1968 327/300 (HO code) vette convertible, The engine is brand new, all original parts on it including the SMOG or (A.I.R.). My question is, while it starts good, and once it warms up (about 1 minute), idles good (750 - 800 rpm), after about 15 to 20 minutes of continual idling, it will climb to about 1000 rpm, no higher. Its weird, since the temp gauge shows 190 - 200 deg, and engine is not idling rough. How do I start with, and keep a constant idle of 750 - 800 rpm??? Hope someone can help me here. thanks a bundle
not yet, I didnt think of it. You mean a carb adjustment to air/fuel mixture??? Will that directly affect the idle mysteriously climbing a couple hundred Rpm??
My idle would would climb suddenly to 1200-1500 for no reasons (71 lt-1). I took it to my mechanic, he looked at it, listened to it, turned a couple screws and told me the problem was fixed, which it has been ever since.
. let engine warm up hook up a vacuum gauge reset idle adjust carb to highest vacuum reading then reset idle again. check vacuum if lower re adjust balance every thing out right then you should be right on.
thanks guys, I fixed problem by adjusted the mixture screw and speed idle screw. It pretty much stays at 750 to 800 rpm now. I will reset the vacuum next time it happens.
