Default 71 brake booster

I am having problems getting the booster out of the car. I have removed the steering column and 3 of the 4 bolts that hold the booster to the firewall but I can not get the drivers side top nut off. Do I have to remove the pedal assembly, if so I don't see how that assembly comes out?

Should just be four nuts on the inside near the steering column. I took it out without taking the column out. The pedal assembly can stay.

you have to break your right arm in two places and your left in three, then you can get in there...

seriously, it's a bitch, but you can get to it..

a swivel socket, a twelve pack, and some patience...

Use duct tape on the swivel to stiffen it up. Little bit easier to remove the seat... slowly but sure'ly...

Use a 3/8 deep socket, a u-joint (taped a little so it won't flop around),a short extension and a long swivel head extension, in that order. It took me 2 months of procrastination before I worked up the courage to do this job and 5 or 6 minutes to take that upper left nut off when I finally got around to it.
You definitely don't have to do anything to the steering column. I did however take the brake light switch off. It took longer to get that back on than it took me to get that upper nut off.
Also, I had the seat out which helped a lot for moving around under there.
When I put the new one in, I left the upper left nut off. There was no way I could get it back on.

Uncle Ralphy... I stuffed my deep socket with paper (less the depth of the nut) I then put a little grease in the socket to hold the nut then turned the extension by hand untill it started...

I got the first nut with my 1/2" drive socket, went to the 3/8" for one or two then went to my 1/4" for the last nut. Seat out helps. I think the 1/4" drive is the way to go with extensions and u-joint.
