Default NO2 Melting Cats

Someone told me that burning nitrous will melt your catalytic coverters, if it is set up properly, is this true?

it is my understanding that runing lean melts cats. Nitrous does the opposite. Not that it is any good for them.

Mmm, a dry shot of nitrous would tend to lean things out. Nitrous adds air to the system not fuel, think chemical supercharger. But I'd go with a wet shot, nitrous jets matched by extra fuel jets. So it shouldn't be lean.

Most kits I've seen have a fuel line run with them. You can't burn the air with out the fuel.

Oh yes you can, problem is it tends to put holes in the pistons.

running lean will make the engine run hotter, but running rich will cause the cats to melt
the nitrous alone will make it run lean, that is why you need more fuel to go with it.

Exhaust gas temps rise quite a bit with N2O and it wouldn't surprise me to see shorter convertor life when using it. If the system is set rich as it should be that will lower convertor life too.

2500$ fine in CA if you fail a roadside visual. There's no way I'd smog my car as it is, and my cats aren't even legal because I have two 3" cats instead of just the one 2.5" cat. But they look good to cops. I'll eat the 10hp for some insurance.

...I think Norval even runs cats for the same reason.

My car is loud enough already, they're high flow cats so it's really not a big deal. I don't want it any louder and I'd feel bad polluting a lot more for such little gain, the liberal college student in me is taking over here .

Why are you putting nitrogen dioxide in your car?

Same here. I don't want the immediate fine I would incure if I failed the visual inspection.
There is not problem running cats and nitrous. Exhuast temperature while under juice do not climb higher.
Nitrous itself has a cooling effect on the intake charge and the burnt gas is no hotter. Think of the short duration you are actually on the juice?? Compare it to a steady run down the highway?

No problem for the cats.

We should try to do out bit. Keep the car lean, run it hot enough and maybe we can cut down some polution.
I try at least.
