Do you mean someone put a TH400 automatic in your originally 4-speed car?

TH400 and 4-speed (and TH350) have 2 different length driveshafts. You are probably missing at least some of the clutch linkage. The mounts are pretty different. Early C3s have a fixed crossmember in 4-sp cars, I can't remember on later cars-kinda think it's removable on all, but can't remember for sure. The transmission basically unbolts from the engine and drops out the bottom of the car. Is that the sort of info you are looking for?

Default Four speed

Sorry about all the typos but yes someone installed a 400 auto in a 4 speed car. It still has the pedal and rod through the firewall. I was wondering about the crossmember it seems welded in so how do you swap trannys?

BG - the cross member on a 4 speed is welded in place. The only way I can think of to remove the 400 is to remove the engine & tranny. On a 4 speed, there is enough room to slide the tranny back & drop the front to clear the bell housing. I don't see that happening with the 400.

I am currently converting a 78 aauto to a 4 speed & can help with a parts list if it helps.
