Its time to do a full tune up and I'm thinking about installing a Pertronix Lobe Sensor and permently getting rid of those pesky points and condensor. Has anyone used the Lobe Sensor? I have read posts concerning the Ignitor that uses the magnetic ring but have yet to see anything about the Lobe Sensor. Can anyone shed some light on this product?
I have the Lobe Sensor, and the only problem I have with it is that it takes the ignition key in the run position for about 5 seconds before you crank the car. A better alternative would be their new system which performs better than either of the previous models and doesn't require the wait to start.
Mallory Unilite is another good choice.
I just installed the Pertronix Ignitor ll on Saturday Morning.
Piece of cake to install and virtually nothing to adjust.
All you do is
1. pull out the points and condensor
2. install the magnetic ring to the bottom of the rotor ( 2 screws)
3. install the sensor ( 2 screws where the points were attached)
4. Adjust the gap (mine needed no adjustment)
5. connect the 2 wires to the coil and fire her up.
Be careful when you tighten the rotor nuts to the magnetic ring. I overtightened mine and bent the ring. I had to do a little creative shiming to get it back in spec.
