On Friday night at 1:30 am my house was struck by lightning and burned. Luckily we all got out safely and the fire department did an amazing job saving the house. There is a great deal of structural damage to the attic, roof, and second story. The garage made it through just fine.
Hopefully I'll get back on the 'net by the weekend at the temporary house and then I can post a more lengthy account of the details. Remind me to tell you about how I promised the Vette to a fireman as long as he could save it.
One last thing. GOd bless those folks, both full-time and volunteers, that risk their lives every day to save our belongings and homes. They are truly heroes.

Shannon,
I'm very sorry for your ordeal...
when I was a kid our house was nearly completely destroyed by fire, I know your pain.
On the brighter side, (if there is one) when it was rebuilt...my parents redid every thing they did,nt like about the house the first time and the house looked even better after the rebuild.

Holy cripes!!! What an ordeal! Best of luck putting everything back together, rebuilding, etc.... Seriously consider taking a littel vaca to get away from it all - maybe Carlisle in a couple of weeks?
And about the vette.... I dont think promises made under duress can be considered binding legal contracts! hang in there!! MJ

Oh Shannon! HOW AWFUL! :( Thank goodness everyone is safe. :yesnod: I remember when I was a kid my aunt & uncle's ski chalet burned down on Christmas night. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but the physical aftermath was just sickening. The smell is a smell I will never forget. Hang in there. Fortunately houses are easily rebuilt, and unlike corvettes originality doesn't matter worth squat.
Glad you're OK. I am a volunteer fire fighter and would encourage everyone near small towns that have volunteer fire departments to get involved and join. These are places that can't afford a full time fire department, but when someone's house is on fire they need all of our help more than anything. It takes a lot of time (meetings, practice, upkeep on equipment), but well worth it. Give it a thought.

My house burned down in college so I know exactly How ya feel........once the initial shock is past , you can then get on with ur life...Best of luck and I am glad ur car was not burned!!! :seeya
Shannon! Glad to hear that everyone got out fine and that it wasn't a total loss. Rebuilding will take time, but you'll work through it. If you need a place to put the Vette durijg reconstreuction, I'm sure you can find an offer or two here :yesnod: :chevy

That really sucks... :(
There was a fire in town late last week where a house under construction caught fire and burned the two houses next door to it down as well...
The kicker is that the owner of one of the houses that burnt down was the guy building the house where the fire started. He was building it for his parents to move in...
All 3 were total losses.
A friend of my mother lives on the street a few houses down from where the fire occurred.
You really pray for all these people. Nobody hurt and that's the blessing.
Hope everything works out for you and your home returns to better shape than it was originally in.
