I went to look at a 1971 Camaro today. It was in rougher shape than I cared to deal with. Anyway, With the $2500 price, came some extra parts. The extra parts included a 454 block bored .060" over and a crank that's been turned "10/10". The rods are included, but need to be reconditioned. Also comes an Edelbrock Air Gap and reman-ed Holley 3310 750cfm carb. Finally, a TH400 that needs rebuilt is included. It sounds like some dude with a machine shop in his back yard may have done the machine work. Oh, I almost forgot- oval port iron heads are included-nothing has been done to them. I could not get to the numbers on the block, because it was wrapped in plastic under a bench, but the numbers on the heads were 346236 and J27 76(both sets of numbers on one head. He will take $500 for the big block stuff and trans. I don't really need it. I have all of the nice big inch small block stuff I can use. I don't really need this stuff and don't really have alot of money to spare for stuff I don't need right now. Is it worth getting this stuff just to have it? From what I could tell from the numbers on the heads, they are from a mid 70's and I would assume that the block is the same with 2 bolt mains. Thanks in advance...
I was in your situation a few months ago. I found a nice project car for 2000 but instead of buying it and pushing myself farther away from finishing my Vette project I just put the money into what I already had. Glad I did too.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I would put the cash into what you have at the moment, not another project.
I'm in this game. I am always running across stuff that is a good deal, but I agree with the philosophy of "finish what you are doing" before starting another project.
However, I do find it extremely hard to pass up the good deals.
If you don't have a use for it right now, I'd say pass.
