I am new to vettes, and was wondering what the rpm rate under normal driving conditions are for a 1980 L82 with the original engine and tranny. Also, what the rpm's should be at 65mph, mine was riding at 2500rpm's in top gear, and near 3000 at 75mph. thanks for the info in andvance.Almost forgot, what should the oil pressure guage read at 2500rpm.
Really not help here since mine is a 79 w/355 rear. But here's a TTT anyway.
Before changing out the TH350 to an OD tranny I would see ~3200RPM at 70MPH.
You'll here a lot of differences in oil pressures but don't worry. At 2500RPM a "good" pressure would be 30-40lbs. My engine is definitely not stock and has a Melling HV (not HP). I see 50lbs but again no need to worry.
Unfortunately without knowing what rear-end gear you are running there is no way to answer your RPM question. The only thing I can tell you is you definitely don't have a 3.70 rear end with those low RPM readings. You are probably even lower than a 355. In any event nothing wrong with a good highway gear like that. It won't have the low end punch but it is much quieter and better on the gas.
