i wa told if u have an l-48...it should b...3:08 on the auto n 3:36 on the man. -------- l-82..it should b...3:55 on the auto n 3:70 on the man.......
What it came with and what it may now have after 30 years could be different. Count the turns or gauge it by the tach. 370 turn about 3400 @65 w 225 70's, 308's about 2800 RPM
gtr, I tried that test today...all I learned is that my tach jams up at 2500 rpm. In any other 10mph jump, it increases several hundred RPM...after it hits 2500 (around 55-60 mph), it just sticks. Reads about 2575 at 70. Judging by the engine sound, I think I probably have 3.38 or 3.55 gears. It's wound up too tight at 65 to be running 2800 rpm...if the increase is fairly constant, it should be reading about 3000 rpm at 65.

Try this.
Determining the rear axel ratio:
jack-up rear safely and use stands
make visible line on drivshaft (to count rotations)
make visible line on one tire (to count 10 rotations)
have assistant count the rotations of the driveshaft while you make 10 rotations of the tire.
divide the driveshaft rotations by 10
31 by 10 = 3.1 probably 3.08 gear
41 by 10 = 4.1 probably 4.11 gear
45-1/2 by 10 = 4.55 probably 4.56 gear
