Hey guys. I have a set of Toms differential yokes that Im about to install but am wondering about something. The old yokes have a kind of a washer pressed on to protect the yoke seals in the side of the diff but Toms dont. Do you think it will make any difference? Ive never seen the protective cover sold seperately and since Tom didnt bother with one Im thinking they aint going to make much difference. Here is a pic of the 2 together.
Wow I Have Not Seen Toms Yokes, They Look Strong. When I Talk To Tom Last Time They Did Not Have Their On Line Cataloge Up Yet. Just Checked Again And It Appears Its Still Not Up And Runnung. How Much Did You Pay For The Yokes? The Only Seals I Have Seen Are Standard Type Oil/grease Seals That Press Into The Dif Case. The Stock Yoke In Your Picture Appears To Still Have The Slip On/press Fit Metal Slinger. With The Flange Design Of Tom's Unit It Seem Like You Probably Dont Need It, But You Can Always Take It Of Off The Stock Unit And See If It Will Fit . I Think The Slingers Are Basically Protection For The Seal. In The Case Of The Tom's Unit The Flange Seems Provide The Same Protection.
Thats what I figure too. The flange on Toms yoke is still about 1-1 1/2" from the seal though. I dont remember what I paid for the yokes. I bought outer axles drilled for 1/2'' studs and half shafts at the same time. I already installed them now anyway so Im not going to worry about the flange.
Thanks for the reply.
I also forgot I had to grind off the 2 little bulges on the diff case that are behind the yokes. They wernt actually touching the yoke but on 1 side I only had a cu*t hair space between them and figured better safe than sorry.
