Hi, all. Hope this is in the right area. I've been working on my '79 all winter, replacing parts, electrical, etc. Everything I've replaced, fixed is for the early '79. The build date on my car is 8/79. The serial # is 7100 from the end of production. I have the bent turn signal lever, 3 section compartment behind the seats, etc. Any idea when they changed from early to late production? I'm about to get into the brakes, so it could get interesting. Thanks ahead for any thoughts, ideas, info. Think Spring!!! Mark
Good question. I'm rebuilding my 79 with what I want. The heck with Chevrolet & early/late. I think all the late parts will fit, so whatever turns your crank.
Early and late does not apply to a whole car, it applies to individual parts when GM changes from the 'early' or 1st design to the 'late' or 2nd design part.
There's no year of Corvette that had all the design changes happen on the same day.
My year of car had some take effect in the first week of production or so and some in the last month, not to mention others scattered throughout the whole year.

In Corvette terms, that's very true. However, if you hang around GM stuff enough, you find that they sometimes did change to a completely different design in mid-year. The trucks were really bad about this.
