Tach Drive Distributor Question....
I have to replace the main shaft due to excessive wear at the bottom bushing. Is it necessary to replace the cross shaft too? It appears to be OK.
thanks
depending on the age of the cross gear, you might want to replace that for your own piece of mind.
If you are going to pull the main distributor shaft, why not do a total refurbishment job with a new shaft, cross gear, brass washer and bushings. That way when it goes back together you will know that everything was replaced and is new. If you know that the cross gear has been replaced several months ago, then I would skip this step. But if you really dont know the age, then why take chances if you can avoid it.

That's my plan. I have the bushings and shims, vac advance, etc. I just ordered both gears, to be sure everything matches up. thanks
