Splash Shield Gasket Substitute?

Splash Shield Gasket Substitute?

I've looked everywhere for the gasket which goes between the splash shield and spindle on the front of my 78 with no luck at all. Is there anything I can substitute for this gasket and obtain good results?? Permatex?? Anything?? Is this gasket even necessary?? As far as I can see it seems to only be for noise reduction.

Gasket paper is sold at most auto parts stores in different thickness. I have used grocery bags for making gaskets too. Get some gasket paper, get out your scissors and go.

Thanks a million for the info. Used the old one as a pattern. Not perfect, but it works! and for only $1.99 at the local auto parts. Plus plenty left over for anything else I may need it for.
