i put the top of the line from car quest,,it has a metal body inside the gasket to keep it from seating incorrectly.....i do not have a drip or a film on my pan and its a aftermarket deep b& m pan w/ drain plug and its chrome which have a tendency to have leaks,,,i roughed the lip on the pan in a crosshatch pattern w/ 80 grit sandpaper before installing carquest gasket
I tried the FelPro Perma-Dry on my TH400 after two unsuccessful attempts to seal. Finally switched to a cast aluminum pan and the FelPro Perma-Dry...with a light dusting of gasket stickum...the bastard still leaks.
Just a thought..I had a leak coming from my transmission not too long ago and I thought it was a pan gasket. It turned out to be a combination of 3 little leaks: dipstick tube, kickdown cable, and tailshaft.
Mine leaks out of the speadometer cable connection. I think my pan leaks also. I've never had problems with cork gaskets(knock on wood) so thats what I use.
After 3 gaskets and I think I should not be turning wrenches it was the shifter seal .Its not always the gasket. replaced the spedo seal and dipstick thought I hai it covered . I will bet there more places that leak that i havent had the pleasure to find.
