Default I need suspension advice.

I need help. My 79 has all poly bushings thruout. Trailing Arms, upper and lower A arms, sway bars, etc. I have 1 1/8" front sway bar, and 5/8" rear. 330 lb. TRW fiberglass springs, and Rancho front springs with one coil cut. I have 275/40 17s tires up front, and 275/40 18s in back. The car handles great. I mean really great. I honk thru Harris Grade (mountain switchbacks) almost as quick as my Porsche. The lady that got fastest time of day at the last Corvette autocross, drove my car and gave two thumbs up. She said good power, good handling, a little loose in the rear like all C3s, but very controllable. She posted a time quicker than many C4s and a couple of C5s. But she's a pro.
Here is my question. At small steering inputs, like changing lanes on the highway, or just following small curves going down the road, the rear end feels like a trailer. It follows, and gives a little steering input of it's own. It seems very nervous or twitchy. I don't like this feeling. It is not there when I'm turning hard. I'm gonna take it to get re-alighned, but I'm not sure if that is the problem. I think I have a little toe in on the rear now, with 0 degrees camber. Should I try more toe in, or try toe out? Am I stuck with this feeling untill I get bushing less trailing arms? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Intersted in this myself. How did you get 275 40 17s in the front?

I ran without a rear sway bar for about a month. I hated it, especially on Harris Grade. I modified the rear bar so that I could fit with the 18x9.5s, and the handling is great again. The problem is there with or without the sway bar. I thought it was because I was sway bar less at first.
I have new Bilstiens on all four corners.
The 275/40 17s in front are on Z06 17x9.5 wheels with 2.5" spacers. The 275/40 17s aren't that much bigger than the 255/60-16s I had on before. You can see pictures of my car here:
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...416&uid=598455
I gave up trying to post pictures here, maybe someone could help.

Now I remember your wheel tire combo. The soft bumper cars have a bigger wheel well then the chrome bumper cars. Yours does look good. I'm going to run without the bar for now and see how it goes. I have a 420# spring in mine now.

I didn't know that. Did the flares get bigger, or the wheel well?

I had a bad problem with this, especially with groves traveling in the same direction as the car. One of the products I go from VB&P gave a tip on this, make sure your toe setting is 1/8" to 3/16". Set mine to 3/16, problem solved.

Definitely do not toe out the rear, it will make the problem worse. Run 1/8" toe in at the rear. What's your front toe set at? If everything's tight, and you've got some toe in at the front, it could be case of those wide 275's in the front pulling you around a bit. Does it do it on flat, level pavement without ruts, seams, and transitions (aka the parking lot you autocrossed in)?

It tracks straight as an arrow. I don't notice anything going straight or cornering. It is noticable only with small steering inputs for things like lane changes. I will have the toe checked. I want 1/16 to 3/16" toe in right?

Bee Jay..You mentioned that you had spacers on the wheels. I used to compete in auto-cross with both of my '68's. The Vert had 255/50/15 on ralley rims. The coupe had 255/50/16's on C-4 Vette rims with 2-1/2 spacers. Both had identical suspensions, alignments and small-blocks (327's). No comparison. Something about the spacers would not allow accurate tracking. The Vert was much better thru the corners. I gave up on the adapters. Makes no sense to me......

It tracks wonderfully. It's just at small direction changes, the rear feels like a trailer following along. I don't know how to describe it otherwise.
69autoxr may have hit it. Maybe I need more toe in with these wide tires.

BeeJay, how did you modify your rear bar for the wide wheels? Wider wheels in the back is my next major mod.

And to post pics, click the yellow button with the two gray mountains, then insert your URL, then click the yellow button again.
