Default Engine Offset 2" to the Right?

I have read many times on this forum that the engine of a C3 is offset 2 inches to the passenger side. A recent thread about driveshaft angles got me under my car measuring stuff. The engine in a C3 is offset 1 inch. The difference in the motor mount lengths is 2 inches but the centerline only moves an inch.

Also the pinion on the differential is 1/2 inch to the passenger side. This means there is only 1/2 difference in the side to side centerline of the pinion and transmission.

I was worried when I didn't see 2 inches of offset after my Tremec conversion.

That offset really shows up when you have to cut the hood for a big blower.

My74r was a real bear when i converted it to right hand drive....i centered the engine and pointed it squarely in the engine bay....because of the offset the crank centerline is at an angle to the diff in both the horizontal and verticle planes thus necessitating the larger tailshaft angles through the uni joints....when centered the angles improve to the optimum <2*......it makes room for the long tube headers, the starter motor and the steering box as well as the brake booster all on the right hand side....john in australia
