I recall that back in the early to mid 80's a company was offering bras' made from stealth material. As I remember, they only offered a couple of different styles ie; Corvettes' and TR 7s' and the like. Did anybody at the forum make a purchase of one of these or know anyone who did? I'm just curious as to the actual performance of these bras' when it came to the police radar detection of the time.

Re: Stealth Bra ? (KenSny)
Steath bras do not work. The material is not RAM (radar absorbant material) it's just hype. Besides, there is enough radar return from your windshield to get you busted.
Save your money - buy a GOOD radar detector (escort or valentine) or run the speed limit.
I don't think Stealth Bras don't absorb radar, they deflect it. The slanted radiator on a C3 makes it one of the most stealthy cars on the road. Dave McClellan went so far as to cant the front license plate holder to improve this even more on the 80-82 Vettes. Drive with your headlights up and your radar visibility doubles or triples. Radar beams return signals to the gun by bouncing off reasonably perpendicular metallic surfaces; however, get close enough and even a baseball will return a signal.
If I ever were to replace my whole fiberglass front end, I think I would glue a thin layer of aluminum foil to the underside of it, and the hood. I become invisible! This is one of the reasons I don't use a front license plate. Fortunately, CA is not too zealous about enforcing this law.
Actually a test on a vette was run years ago by Car and Driver magazine. They were testing the capabilities of radar guns, detectors, and jammers. The jammers were found to be worthless (as usual) and the detectors were rated in order of their sensitivity. As a side bar they did a test of a "bra" but it wasn't anything like what we have on cars today. It was a one-off made of a radar absorbtion balistic cloth just for the test. It covered the entire front of the car midway up the hood. They needed to do this because of the radiator as one person noted. If I remember correctly it made the car invisible to the radar guns of the day until it was within about 50 to 100 feet of the gun. I'm sure the radar guns have gotten better and the cost of actual radar absorbtion material is probably beyond the means of the average driver. Still, an interesting test. :seeya
