My sending unit went out on my 79 a few weeks ago. I got one from my local GM dealer since my buddie works is a Mr. Goodwrench but it is a standard unit that you should be able to find about anywhere.

That sending unit was used into at least the late 80s on Suburbans, maybe into 91. Should be no problem to find from GM. Ask them again. If they don't have it, you can use a later 3-wire sender. You would just need the later plug to adapt and just use 1 wire.
