Default Quick rear end question

So I finally got the old rear end out of the '69 yesterday and got it on the bench. I cleaned it up real good and decided to pop the cover to get a look inside before just bolting it into the chassis I'm bulding up. I was impressed how clean it looks inside, and can't find any evidence of wear on the gears or internals. I drained all the fluid and looked at everything I could see in there, shing lights inside and everything to get the best view I could. My plan is to replace the cover gasket and paint it up and install it. What (if any) sealer should I use in conjunction with the new gasket I got from NAPA when replacing the cover? Are there other things I should do to the rear before bolting it back in the new chassis? Rear ends are kinda like automatic transmissions to me - I don't like to screw around with them I can't find any evidence of wear, so it doesn't make sense to rebuild it to me. Thoughts?

Any idea how many miles on it? I would check for end play in the yokes and lash in the gears. GAry has a great paper on this stuff.

Apply a very thin coat of RTV silicone with your fingers to both sides of the gasket making sure to spread it around the bolt holes.
