Today I finally had my car aligned, after the rear end rebuild. Man, does it drive great! :D :D
Surprisingly, my home-made rear alignment was quite good. The camber was correct, and the guy only had to mess up with the trailing arm shims on one side. Most of the work was done on the front.
Also, finally have my interior "complete", after more than 1.5 years. Tomorrow, to celebrate, we'll go on a small trip!
Many thanks to all who helped me on this neverending project!
I had almost forgotten the great feeling it is to drive these cars. And all the looks and "nice car" comments we get. Today I was on the street installing one of the seats, and two little kids came and wanted to know if that was a race car!
Pedro, how did you align your rear end? I am going to redo mine and need to know how to set it. Thanks.\ :smash:
Actually I think I was just lucky... I kept the old shims, labeled them, and used the same amounts when I reinstalled the T/A's. The camber was adjusted with a carpenter level with two spacers, so that it touches the wheel without any interference of the tire. I just tried to get the wheels perpendicular to the ground (easy job, with adjustable rods), and luckly the camber came out on the spot!
I have been watching your progress closely as I plan to do the rear end job this winter. Man I've learned a lot from your posts but being not nearly as experienced as others here have kept quiet. Enjoy the car and congratulations.
R. Bruno: glad to hear that my threads with countless questions may have helped you or others. Good luck with your project!
Steve: Nice article! Thanks!
Today we went to Newport, RI. Drove on good roads and bad roads, and confirmed: the car is driving great! :D :D :D The weather couldn't be better, and I saw lots of Corvettes, including 5 C3's.

Re: Drives like new! (Pedro'74)
Nothing like having a new suspension and alignment done to make it drive like new. I didn`t get my rear lined up as good as you(by myself), so when I picked it up from the alignment shop I was amazed at how good, straight and smooth the car was.
This winter comes the front suspension, power steering rebuild. Yee Haa
Good job there Pedro, kind of like teaching math right?!!
Gary
Hey Gary,
Exactly: one problem after another! :D The basic difference is that I (usually) know the answers to the problems I give to my students, while I have no idea how to solve the problems I give to you, forum members! If it weren't for this forum, I guess I'd have sold my car long ago (in pieces)...
