Default tranny question

my new kickdown/dent cable for the 81 hasnt arrived. is it safe to drive the car with the old one disconnected? Wasnt sure if it would cause tranny damage or not?

if im not mistaken the detent cable controls shift points. I would put in the new one before driving car.

You will be fine it only controls kick down. The modulator and govenor control shift points.

You regularly read posts on here about people driving for years without this being set properly. It only really affects dropping gears when you stomp on it.
