Since my car needs a paint job pretty bad I would like to put a Big Block hood on it. I've heard the L88's were pretty tall and hard to see over. So the only other one I see is the Ecklers Stinger Hood. But what hood came on the '74 Big Block? Does anyone have a picture? I like the LT1 hoods does anyone know if they make one that fits a 75? Also if anyone has any pictures of there custom hoods please chime in? Thanks
I'm 5'9" and can easily see over my L-88 hood. It presents no obstruction at all. I've never seen an extended 68-72 BB hood anywhere that would fit the '73 and later 'Vettes. I believe there is only one factory hood for the '73 and on year Corvettes. Different for the different years, but no SB or BB difference.
The 74 BB used a low rise intake. That allowed them to use the same hood on either car.
My friend has a 71 BB that opted for a 74 style hood to do away with his wiper door. He had to run the low rise to squeeze it all in. We are thinking about doing a little trick work and basically sectioning the top off the stock style 74 hood and raising it about 2". Just enough to make you look twice, but not enough to be ridiculous. Plus, he will be able to put the taller intake back on.
