As it becomes obvious to me that my 68 was in a pretty serious wreck, I am preparing the old bank account for some pretty heavy hits. LOL. There is a replacement front surround that compared to my 76 seems really flimsy. On the 68 I can press on the top of the fenders and "dent" the fender in and out fairly easily. On my 76 it is almost impossible.
Here is ecklers "hand laid" at $1100. or there is
Actually someone on ebay (who may even be a forum supporting member) "press molded" for $2700." Is this the difference between my 76 (oem) being much more solid then my 68?
Original 'glass will deflect on my '68 upper surround. The after-market units are usually a little beefier than OEM. The press molded unit sounds like a more correct piece, with bonding seams...probably jig-built.
i heard that hand laid glass has issues with continuous thicknesses and strength..... not really sure..... but press molded , i believe, is a bit more dense that the other....
