I've got a question regarding cam bearings in the 65-66 big blocks... I have a groove in the bearing but not in the cam I have recently purchased. Is it a requirement to have the oil groove in both the cam and the bearing or can just one have the groove and not the other?? Summit is telling me that I only need one of them to have a groove and not both..... I really don't want to have to take the cam to a machine shop to have the groove installed....TIA
I'm getting so many different answers I don't know what to believe... I've been told that I can add a 3/4 X 1/8 groove (key shaped)with a die grinder (do it yourself) that would suffice..... The cam I took out you could tell I had been ground on for the groove..... I'm lost

Don't do it yourself. I went through the same thing a few years ago. I was told it must be there, so I bought a cam and the manufacture did cut the groove. It has something to do with the oiling and it was changed in 67, so it was not an issue. Have a machine shop do the groove for you. The specs for depth, etc are on the cam sites.
