the 350 in my 82 is not original and the oil pan is beat up and the gasket leaks. since its coming off anyway what is the best aftermarket pan to use without clearance or hanging too low issues
I put a nicely painted new stock pan on my new 383. no leaks and didnt break the bank. nothing wrong with a stock pan unless your looking to up your oil capacity.

Canton has a wide variety of oil pans available for the SBC. From virtually stock to full competition, check them out. They're pricey, but there are few better. http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...mpetition.html
Yes you would need an extended oil pump pick up tube which I recommend brazing it onto the oil pump. Moroso sells the extended pickups or you can buy the pump/pickup in a kit already brazed together.
If you change to pan with a deeper sump you must use the proper length oil pump pickup.
I used a Moroso pan similar to the 20190 which I believe is 8 1/4 inch deep sump, stock was 7 inch deep so there is a greater potential for it to drag on a speed bump or something. The Canton's I believe are 7 or 7 1/4 inch deep.
