What started out as just replacing a broke differential cover as lead into an entire rear end rebuilt. This has drasticly tore into the engine $$ I planned on spending. I was planning on buying Edlbrock 64cc RPM heads.
Question is, how much can I shave the stock 79 L82 heads and what will the gains be? i.e. 75cc stock to ??cc after shaving.
77 & later are thinner casting & do not lend themselves to milling nearly as well as earlier castings ... you won't get anywhere near 64cc w/79 ... you'll be "lucky" to get 70cc ... and I'm not so sure if you'll be lucky as they may not seal well at 70cc. http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...h.asp&N=400033 Look at the 64cc Brodix Iron Killer Aluminum heads (either 180cc or 200cc runners) ... about $1000/complete pair P/N BRO-1021001 at summit & alot more head than edelbrock performer & rpm (both have 170cc runners). If you can't swing the $1K ... best low-buck approach for more CR & good flow probably a set of rebuilt 64cc iron Vortec GM production heads (170cc runners) and a Professional Products P/N 52007 intake manifold http://www.dougherbert.com/powerplusintake-p-8092.html fits underhood like a performer 2101.
