Default Riddle me this

I took the car to the alingment shop today to have frontend set. He grabbed the back wheels and was able to rock them top to bottom about 5/8-11/16 inch. the halfshaft was also moving in and out when he did this. Is something a miss here and what would it be? tell me what kind of $$ im looking at for a complete rear rebuild if i do the bolt off/on myself

thanks

the trailing arms need tov be pulled and new bearings and seals installed. If you do the remove and install the trailing arms can be sent to Van Steele to be rebuilt. Looking at about six hundred that way. If you take it to a shop at least double that. Van Steele is a vendor and very reputable. Hopefully, the spindles are still good. Not really good news.

If your trailing arm bushings are still good you can just take out the rear bearing assemblies and get a rebuilt one from Van Steel. I am doing that now. They are 199.00 each side with core exchange.

You say the half shaft was moving in and out. To me, it would indicate worn half shafts or the c-clip has come off the half shaft.

I thought wheel bearing wear was checked by rocking right to left.

So what is it ? I would like to know too, my up and down movement is about 1/8" and my side to side ( right to left ) is almost none

Bearings are up and down. Tie rods are left to right.

It sounds like you have too much play in your differential side yokes. Sitting still, when the car is on the ground the yokes are pushed in by the weight of the car.

Loose wheel bearings will rock or have play in ALL directions relative to the trailing arm.

If the e-clip fell out you would WAY bigger issues than some 6/12 0clk end play..
