Well I just got my 17x8" boyd smoothie II's on the '69 and the tire is rubbing ever so slightly on the brake line that is under the trailing arm. The wheels came with a 3/16" spacer so I need to know what my options are here. The wheels clear everything else just fine. Can I do a 5/16" spacer safely? Should I just go with 1" spacers all around? Any other options of moving the brake line out of the way? Thanks in advance!!
Some people squirm at the idea of spacers, others run autocross with them with no problems.... some people squirm at the idea of taking a reciprocating saw to their emergency brake cable mounts, others whack'em, weld'em and forget it.
I'm in the group that doesn't see the problem with relocating the EB cable mount. It's not difficult to do (providing you have access to a welder). I think the original location was poor design on GM's part. If you do move it, remember to clean up the welds and get something on there to prevent rust, etc.
