On my '76, there is a strange buzzing noise that almost sounds like the headlight warning buzzer, but stays on constantly until the battery is disconnected. I have tried turning the headlights on and off and opening and closing the doors and it makes no difference. At one point, I loosened the steering column bolts (from lower dash) to try and access the area above it, and it suddenly stopped. The noise did come back a few months later, however.
Any suggestions on what to check ? I know there is a warning buzzer for the headlights and one for the key in the ignition, any others ?

My vote would be the key buzzer. There's a contact in the column that detects when there's a key in the lock, when the door's open. Pull the lock cylinder out and have a look.
